CJI Initiates Construction of New Court Buildings in Karkardooma, Shastri Park, and Rohini

Today, the Chief Justice of India inaugurated the groundbreaking ceremony for new court buildings at Karkardooma, Shastri Park, and Rohini.

Justice DY Chandrachud highlighted that these GRIHA-rated buildings will feature abundant greenery, shaded facades to enhance comfort, ample natural light diffusion, and incorporate eco-friendly measures such as rainwater harvesting.

CJI expressed his satisfaction knowing that the new buildings will address climate change realities by focusing on heat island mitigation and minimizing environmental impact, emphasizing the importance of infrastructure reflecting our current challenges.

On the new court complexes enhancement of efficiency of the court and reducing the pendency, CJI said, "Courts are a repository of precedents and an accumulation of social histories. Judges apply the ‘present’ law, drawing upon the ‘past’ law to shape the ‘future’ law. Through their rulings, they bridge historical legal principles with contemporary issues, crafting the legal landscape for tomorrow."

"I am hopeful that the new additions to the courts will embrace its rich legacy and create futuristic courts to enhance efficiency and uphold justice", he said while ending his address.

In conclusion, Justice Chandrachud recalled that Karkardooma was the pioneer as India's first e-Court in 2010. He emphasized that the new facilities would uphold a standard of environmental consciousness, justice-oriented principles, and accessibility, marking a significant advancement from its inception.

Present at the ceremony were VK Saxena, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi; Atishi Singh, Minister of PWD, Finance & Law, Government of NCT of Delhi; Supreme Court Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Hima Kohli; Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Justice Manmohan; and Justice Rajiv Shakdher of the Delhi High Court.
