CJI Chandrachud set to deliver 20th D. P. Kohli Memorial lecture today

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is set to mark a significant milestone today as it celebrates its Raising Day by organizing the 20th D. P. Kohli Memorial Lecture. This annual event holds particular importance for the investigative agency as it honors its founder and commemorates the vision and legacy of D. P. Kohli. Born in 1907 in Uttar Pradesh, Kohli's remarkable career in the police service laid the foundation for what would become India's premier investigating and prosecuting agency.

Established on April 1, 1963, by a Government of India resolution, the CBI was tasked with investigating cases of bribery, corruption, violations of central fiscal laws, and serious crimes. Over the last six decades, it has evolved into a formidable force in law enforcement, earning recognition for its integrity, accountability, and excellence in operations.

The D. P. Kohli Memorial Lecture, initiated in 2000, stands as a testament to Kohli's pioneering efforts and the agency's commitment to advancing criminal justice. This year's lecture, to be delivered by Chief Justice of India Justice D. Y. Chandrachud, focuses on the theme "Adopting Technology to Advance Criminal Justice." It underscores the importance of leveraging technological advancements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of criminal investigation and prosecution.

In addition to the lecture, the occasion will witness the presentation of the President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service and Police Medals for Meritorious Service to commendable CBI officers. This recognition serves to honor their dedication and contribution to upholding law and order in the country.

Through the D. P. Kohli Memorial Lecture series, the CBI aims to facilitate dialogue, share knowledge, and address challenges within the realm of law enforcement and criminal justice. The participation of distinguished speakers and luminaries from various fields enriches these discussions, offering valuable insights and perspectives.

As the CBI pays homage to its founder Director and reflects on its journey over the decades, it reaffirms its commitment to integrity, accountability, and excellence. The legacy of D. P. Kohli continues to inspire the agency in its mission to combat crime and uphold justice in society.
