CJI Chandrachud looks after his differently abled adopted daughters better than we look after our own children: Justice BR Gavai

In a function organized at Bombay High Court in the honor of CJI Dr. DY Chandrachud, Justice Gavai spoke with his heart out about him. He said that under the dynamic leadership of Chief Justice of India Dr. DY Chanrachud, the Indian Judiciary will undergo a remarkable change and citizen would get speedy justice at a minimum cost.

He said that the CJI is known for his inclusiveness, and stresses on facilitating representation od all sections of society, especially women and marginalized citizens.

He further stressed upon the fact that CJI Chandrachud and his wife Kalpana Das had adopted two differently-abled children while he was serving as Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court.

Justice Gavai said "I have personally seen, both of them are looked after with such compassion. It is really very rare to find in fact, it is difficult that even we won't look after our children so well".

He also recounted an instance when one of the two children fell ill last summer, when COVID-19 was at its peak.

"The child was to be brought down to Chandigarh and was hospitalised for a month. Kalpana was camping there for over a month till she recovered and brought back home. This humane and compassionate approach is reflected even in his judgments."
