In a significant move to address the concerns raised by bar members, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud announced today that the Supreme Court has implemented measures to ensure the timely generation of diary numbers for e-filed matters. The new measures have reduced the process to a remarkable 15 minutes from the time of filing, marking a considerable improvement from the previous delays experienced by lawyers and litigants.

Chief Justice Chandrachud acknowledged the grievances expressed by the bar members regarding the delayed generation of diary numbers for e-filed matters. In response to their concerns, the court has made substantial efforts to expedite the system further, with the goal of generating diary numbers immediately upon the filing of a matter.

"One request by bar members was that diary numbers for matters were being generated late. So now we're down to a situation where the diary number is being generated within 15 mins of the matter being filed," Chief Justice Chandrachud stated during the court proceedings.

The efficient generation of diary numbers is crucial as they play a vital role in tracking cases, managing court records, and facilitating the smooth progression of legal proceedings. With the implementation of the new measures, the Supreme Court aims to alleviate the frustration caused by delays in obtaining diary numbers, benefiting both legal practitioners and the litigants.

The Chief Justice further emphasized the court's commitment to enhancing the system and making it even smoother by achieving real-time generation of diary numbers upon the matter being filed. To achieve this objective, Chief Justice Chandrachud revealed that the court had been actively testing the system's capabilities during weekends, demonstrating their dedication to resolve the issue.

"I had received requests from SCBA and SCAORA that diary numbers were generated late on e-filing," Chief Justice Chandrachud added, acknowledging the constructive feedback provided by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA).

The announcement of these improvements comes as a welcome relief to the legal community, as it will significantly streamline the filing process and ensure that legal matters receive prompt attention in the highest court of the land.
