A local court in Chennai on Monday sentenced Sathish, 30, to death for the murder of 20-year-old college student Sathya, whom he pushed in front of a moving train at St Thomas Railway Station, killing her instantly.

The incident, which occurred in 2022, was initially investigated by local police but was later transferred to the CB-CID. According to the CB-CID, Sathish had been stalking Sathya before he pushed her towards the oncoming suburban train, resulting in her tragic death.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 35,000 on Sathish and directed him to pay a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the victim’s family.

On Monday, the Mahila Court convicted Sathish under IPC 302 (punishment for murder), sentencing him to death by hanging.
