Centre Clears Appointment of Three Bombay HC Judges as Permanent, Extends Tenure of One

The Central government has approved the appointment of three additional judges of the Bombay High Court as permanent judges, effective March 4.

The judges who have been granted permanent status are:

  • Justice Shailesh Pramod Brahme
  • Justice Firdosh Phiroze Pooniwalla
  • Justice Jitendra Shantilal Jain

Additionally, the government has extended the tenure of Justice Manjusha Ajay Deshpande as an additional judge for another year.

This decision follows the Supreme Court Collegium's recommendation issued in February 2025.

As of March 1, the Bombay High Court is operating with 66 judges against a sanctioned strength of 94, leaving 28 vacancies.
