The Central government on Monday approved the appointment of Telangana High Court Chief Justice Alok Aradhe as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
"In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to transfer Shri Justice Alok Aradhe, Chief Justice, Telangana High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court and to direct him to assume charge of the office of the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court," a notification on the website of the Department of Justice read.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended Justice Alok Aradhe's appointment on January 7.
He will succeed Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya, who has been transferred to the Delhi High Court as its Chief Justice.
Justice Aradhe began his judicial career as an additional judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court in 2009 and became a permanent judge in 2011. In 2016, he was transferred to the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, where he served as Acting Chief Justice for three months in 2018.
Later, he was appointed as a judge of the Karnataka High Court on November 17, 2018, and briefly held the position of Acting Chief Justice in 2022. In July 2023, he assumed office as the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court.
