The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has chosen to shut down its main bench in New Delhi on January 22, 2024, to commemorate the inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The decision was prompted by a memorandum from the Ministry of Personnel Public Grievances and Pensions, recommending the closure of central government offices nationwide until 2:30 PM on that day.
As per a notification issued on January 19, the Tribunal announced, "The Principal Bench, New Delhi, and all its satellite Benches will remain closed for half a day until 1430 hours to celebrate the Ram Lalla Pran Pratishta in Ayodhya."
However, a subsequent notification on the same day revised the decision, declaring the principal bench to be closed for the entire day.
"In continuation of the earlier notification dated 19.01.2024, it is informed for the general information of all concerned that the Hon'ble Chairman has decided to declare the remaining half day (i.e., 1430 hours to 1800 hours) on 22.01.2024 as a non-working holiday. In lieu of this, the first half (i.e., 0930 hours to 1300 hours) on 03.02.2024 (Saturday) will be a working day for this Bench," stated the second notification.
