To enhance the operational efficiency of the State's judiciary, the Calcutta High Court took a significant step by distributing 1,000 laptops among the judicial officers on Saturday.
Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam, leading the event, underscored the deep integration of technology within the judicial dispensation system.
''The COVID-19 pandemic delivered a harsh lesson to the judiciary, compelling it to embrace an alternative approach by transitioning to virtual hearings for case proceedings.'' , Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam said.
The Chief Justice stressed the imperative need to embrace advancements and stay current to avoid falling behind. Highlighting the boon of computerizing court proceedings, including the filing process, the Chief Justice noted its significant role in expediting case resolutions and enhancing effective case management.
"Throughout the country, courts transitioned entirely to virtual modes during the pandemic, resulting in the effective resolution of cases. Even lower courts successfully operated during this period. This enduring lesson compels us to enhance our skills further. In line with this, the Computer Committee recommended top-tier laptops for the judicial officers," he explained.
Chief Justice Sivagnanam emphasized that the laptops being distributed to judicial officers boast the "best configuration." Their quality surpasses that of the laptops currently utilized by the High Court judges.
