Calcutta HC Asks Police for Update on Investigation into Sandeshkhali Gang Rape Case

The Calcutta High Court, under the direction of Justice Jay Sengupta, has ordered the police to file a progress report on the investigation into the Sandeshkhali gang rape case by January 13.

The order came in response to a plea alleging that the police had not taken adequate action despite the case being registered. The plea further stated that the accused are still at large and are threatening the victim.

Counsel for the petitioner submitted that the accused were threatening the petitioner with dire consequences, prompting the petitioner to approach the police once again with these allegations. Despite this, no action had been taken, and the culprits remain at large. The petitioner expressed concerns over the inaction of the police and the lack of progress in the case.

Justice Sengupta also instructed the police to provide armed security to the victim and ensure increased vigilance in the area to prevent further threats or disturbances.
