The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended Senior Advocate KV Viswanathan's name for the appointment as Supreme Court judge on Monday and passed a resolution to this effect.
The collegium headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud considered that there was only one member from the bar directly appointed to the Supreme Court bench while making the recommendation.
The resolution says "In their considered opinion, Mr KV Viswanathan, Senior Advocate is eminently suitable for being appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court".
The resolution also says that he would also become Chief justice of India for about 9 months and would become CJI after the retirement of Justice JB Pardiwala in August 2030.
Earlier also there was news with regard to the recommendation of the name of Mr. Vishwanathan as SC Judge during the tenure of CJI UU Lalit.
The Supreme Court has a sanctioned strength of thirty-four judges and is presently functioning with thirty-two. There would be 3 more retirements in Supreme Court during the coming Summer Vacation.
