The Bombay High Court has issued a temporary order restraining Sherry Singh, the 2023 Mrs. India pageant winner, from participating in any national or international beauty contests until the conclusion of a lawsuit filed against her.
The order came as part of a hearing presided over by Justice Arif Doctor.
The legal dispute was initiated by Mohini Satyendra Sharma, the proprietor of "Mrs. India Inc.," who argued that Singh was contractually obligated to seek Sharma's approval before entering any other beauty pageants. According to Sharma, Singh’s participation in the upcoming Mrs. Bharat Universe 2024, scheduled in South Korea, breached the terms of her 2023 Mrs. India Inc. title.
Sharma's counsel highlighted the investments made by Mrs. India Inc. in training and grooming Sherry Singh. These efforts, they argued, entitled Sharma to exclusive control over Singh’s future pageant participation. Despite being served with notices and given time to respond, Singh did not file any objections to the lawsuit.
After reviewing the case, Justice Doctor granted ad interim relief to Sharma, concluding that a prima facie case had been made. The court's order emphasized that since Singh failed to contest the claims, there was no valid opposition to the interim injunction sought by Sharma. Thus, Singh remains temporarily barred from competing in other beauty pageants until further court proceedings.
