Today, the Bombay High Court rejected a writ petition challenging the contract awarded to Adani Transmission for the supply of renewable and thermal power electricity in the state of Maharashtra.
A division bench of the Bombay High Court, led by Chief Justice Devendra Upadhyaya and Justice Amit Borkar, heard a petition filed by Shriraj Nageshwar Aepurwar challenging the awarding of a 6600 MW power supply contract to Adani.
While rejecting the civil writ petition, the Bombay High Court imposed a cost of ₹50,000 on the petitioner, observing that the plea contained unsubstantiated and reckless allegations.
"In our opinion, filing of such petition containing unsubstantiated and reckless avermemts have the risk of sometimes good causes being lost," the bench said.
Advocate Anand Jondhale, representing the petitioner, alleged that former Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde colluded with Gautam Adani, leading to the award of the contract to Adani Transmission.
The petitioner also referenced a document purportedly detailing corruption charges against Gautam Adani in the United States. However, the bench noted that the petitioner's counsel had "utterly failed" to explain the nature or relevance of the document.
