The Bombay High Court sought updated psychiatric, psychological, and probation officer reports for a man convicted in 2017 of killing his mother and cooking her organs for consumption.
The division bench of the high court, consisting of Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Shyam Chandak, was considering an application filed by the state government to confirm the death sentence imposed by the Kolhapur Court in 2021.
The convict, Sunil Rama Kochakorvi, has also filed an appeal against the conviction order of the Kolhapur Court. The prosecution contends that in August 2017, Sunil killed his 63-year-old mother, fried her organs, and consumed them.
Advocate Yug Mohit Chaudhary, representing Sunil, argued that the state should gather comprehensive information about the accused, including his upbringing, family background, education, socio-economic status, criminal history, instances of unstable social behavior, and any mental or psychological conditions or feelings of alienation experienced by the individual.
Therefore, the court has requested a report from the prison authorities regarding Sunil's conduct, behavior, any work undertaken (if applicable), and other pertinent details to gain a more accurate and comprehensive understanding of his current situation and progress.
The high court will now hear the case on July 10.
