Bombay HC Grants AIMM Permission to Hold Tipu Sultan Jayanti Rally in Pune

The Pune Police informed the Bombay High Court that it has granted permission to the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMM) to hold a rally in celebration of Tipu Sultan Jayanti.

A division bench of the High Court, comprising Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice SG Dige, was hearing a petition filed by the Pune President of AIMM, who sought permission to celebrate the birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan on November 26, coinciding with Constitution Day, alongside the commemoration of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad.

The bench clarified that AIMM must adhere to all prescribed terms and conditions for holding the rally. Previously, the bench had questioned whether any restrictions existed on rallies or the celebration of Tipu Sultan Jayanti.

The AIMM President sought the High Court's intervention after the Pune rural police denied permission for the event. The Pune Rural Superintendent informed the bench that incidents from the previous year had led to the registration of offenses.

The bench ruled that the Pune Police had the authority to determine the route for the procession and emphasized that if any law and order issues arose, the police could take appropriate action. However, the High Court stressed that concerns regarding law and order could not be used as grounds to deny permission for the procession.
