The Bombay High Court has dismissed a PIL challenging the use of laser beams and loud sound systems during religious processions and other ceremonies.
The case was heard on August 16 by a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Amit Borkar.
The petitioner contended that the hazardous laser beams used during festivals had caused loss of eyesight in several individuals. Additionally, they argued that the noise pollution from DJ systems and similar activities had resulted in hearing loss for many people.
“The PIL is dismissed in light of other remedies being available,” said Justice Borkar while pronouncing the judgment.
A detailed copy of the order will be made available soon.
