Bihar Government withdraws Petition from SC regarding the eligibility of B.Ed candidates

Recently, the Bihar Government decided to withdrew its petition from the Supreme Court, which had sought to address the participation of B.Ed degree holders in this year's primary teacher recruitment proces.

After hearing both sides, the Court observed that the matter should go to the bench of Justice Aniruddha Bose, following which lawyer Nadkarni withdrew the matter.

Last month, the Bihar government approached the Supreme Court challenging the orders of Patna High Court, rejecting its application for interim directions/ clarifications regarding such appointments for which the written examination has already been held and the result is under process.

In its appeal to the Supreme Court, the state government argued that the primary teacher recruitment process had reached an advanced stage, and excluding B.Ed qualified candidates at this late juncture would result in significant complications.

Counsel for the State of Bihar submitted that instead of holding the re-exam, the government could declare the results. However, advocate Prashant Bhushan said that they have filed an intervention petition in the case.

"There’s also a petition which is coming on Thursday where they have said that it can be allowed at least this time," Bhushan added.
