A Bengaluru court has extended Janata Dal (Secular) Member of Parliament (MP) Prajwal Revanna's custody with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) until June 10. The decision came following an application by the SIT, with Special Magistrate KN Shivakumar issuing the order.
Previously, on May 31, the court had granted Revanna seven days of custody with the SIT, which was set to expire on June 6.
The allegations of sexual abuse against Revanna surfaced amidst the circulation of over 2,900 videos depicting the assault of multiple women, including on social media platforms. These accusations led to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Revanna and his father, HD Revanna, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Holenaraseepur town police station in Hassan district on April 28.
The said matter was initiated based on a complaint from one of the victims, with a Special Investigation Team, headed by senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer BK Singh, tasked with investigating the matter.
Following the public outcry and political turmoil that ensued, Prajwal Revanna fled to Germany shortly after the Lok Sabha polls in the state on April 26. However, he returned to India during the early hours of May 31 and was subsequently arrested.
Prior to his return, Prajwal Revanna had filed for anticipatory bail in the Bengaluru court regarding the three cases linked to the sexual abuse allegations against him.
