The Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry has written to the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, urging the consideration of candidates from underrepresented communities for judicial appointments.

This initiative aims to ensure that the judiciary reflects the diverse social fabric of society. The council emphasizes that all eligible and qualified advocates, regardless of caste, creed, or religion, should be considered for elevation to the position of high court judge.

The council also references a Supreme Court judgment highlighting the importance of diversity in judicial appointments, suggesting that while suitability is paramount, appointments should not be exclusive to any particular group.
