"Punjab & Haryana High Court denied bail to a man accused of transporting cows for slaughter. The court considered the allegations against the accused to be very serious. Justice Gurbir Singh also noted that the accused had concealed the pendency of earlier cases against him, and he failed to provide an explanation for this omission."
The accused was alleged to have been carrying cows in poor conditions in a Mahindra Bolero pick-up truck in the middle of the night. When a Bajrang Dal worker attempted to stop them, the accused and others allegedly rammed their vehicle against the complainant's vehicle and fled the scene. The complainant and others chased the vehicle, and the accused reportedly threw stones at them.
Additionally, they were accused of throwing cows in front of the pursuing vehicle and attempting to harm the complainant.
The petitioner claimed that he had been in custody since November 2022, and nothing incriminating had been found in his possession. However, the State opposed the plea, stating that the petitioner was involved in another case under the Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gau Samvardhan Act, which he had not disclosed.
The court considered this submission and concluded that the petitioner had misled the court. As a result, the court found that he was not entitled to bail. Justice Singh, while dismissing the petition, stated that due to the petitioner's attempt to mislead the court and the gravity of the offense, he did not deserve the concession of regular bail at that stage.
Advocate Azad Khan represented the petitioner, while Deputy Advocate General Karan Sharma represented the State.
