The wife of 34-year-old tech professional Atul Subhash from Bangalore, along with three of her family members, has approached the Allahabad High Court with an anticipatory bail petition in relation to an FIR filed against them in a case of abetment to suicide.
Atul Subhash, who reportedly died by suicide due to alleged harassment by his wife through the filing of matrimonial cases, left behind a placard reading "justice is due" and a 24-page suicide note.
In addition, he recorded an 81-minute video in which he accused his wife, Nikita Singhania, and her family of subjecting him to ongoing harassment amid a legal battle over divorce, alimony, and child custody in a family court in Jaunpur district, Uttar Pradesh.
An FIR was filed by Bikas Kumar, Atul Subhash's brother, in Bengaluru, accusing Nikita Singhania and three of her family members of abetting Atul's suicide.
According to the High Court's website, accused Nikita Singhania, along with her mother Nisha Singhania, brother Anurag Singhania, and uncle Sushil Singhania, filed an anticipatory bail plea on Friday. The matter is expected to be heard later this week.
In the wake of this suicide case, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking directions to prevent harassment of husbands and their family members in cases filed under domestic violence and dowry laws.
