Allahabad HC acquits Koli in 12 Nithari killings case, spares Pandher from death penalty

Today, the Allahabad High Court has made a significant decision to quash the convictions of Surinder Koli, the primary suspect, in 12 cases connected to the Nithari serial murders that transpired during 2005-2006 in Noida. These 12 cases had previously resulted in death penalties imposed by the trial court. In a parallel development, Moninder Singh Pandher, another individual implicated in the same case, has also been absolved of guilt in two cases for which he had originally received death sentences from the trial court.

In response to this noteworthy development, a judicial panel, including justices Ashwani Kumar Mishra and Syed Aftab Husain Rizvi, granted approval to the appeals filed by Pandher and Koli. This decision follows the panel's earlier decision to reserve judgment on these cases last month. A comprehensive judgment with further details is anticipated.

The notorious Nithari murders, believed to have occurred between 2005 and 2006, came to public attention when human remains were discovered in a drainage area adjacent to a residence in Nithari, Noida, in December 2006. Subsequently, it was revealed that Moninder Pandher was the proprietor of the house, and Surinder Koli was employed as his domestic help. Due to this connection, both individuals were implicated in the First Information Reports (FIRs) associated with the case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a total of 16 cases, charging Surinder Koli with murder, abduction, rape, and destruction of evidence in all of them. Moninder Pandher was charged in one case related to immoral trafficking.

However, Pandher was called before the Ghaziabad court in five additional cases after several victim's relatives addressed the court. According to the CBI, Koli murdered many girls by dismembering their bodies and tossing them outside their home in the garden.
