Aftab Poonawalla's judicial custody extended by 14 days in Shraddha Walker murder case

On Friday, Saket City Court Judge Aviral Shukla extended the judicial custody of Aftab Poonawalla by 14 days, who is accused of brutally killing his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar. The order was passed today by the court following a video conference hearing. Earlier on 26th November, the court extended the accused's judicial custody by 13 days during the last hearing in the case.

Aftab Poonawala allegedly sawed Walkar's body into 35 pieces and kept it in a fridge at his home in Mehrauli, south Delhi, for nearly three weeks before dumping them across the city over several days. Poonawalla and Walkar met on the dating app Bumble and began a live-in relationship. They were originally based in Mumbai before relocating to Delhi earlier this year.

According to police investigating the crime, on May 18, following a quarrel between the couple in a rented flat in Mehrauli, the accused strangulated the victim, chopped her body into 35 pieces, stored it in a fridge, and then dumped the pieces throughout the city over the next 18 days.

The Delhi High Court recently dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) petition requesting that the investigation in the case be transferred from the Delhi Police to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
