Advocate Protection Bill passed in Rajasthan, Lawyers' strike comes to an end

The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly has passed the "The Advocates Protection Bill, 2023" which is being demanded by the advocates of the State of Rajasthan for quite some time.

The Bill is passed by voice-vote after it was tabled in the assembly last week. The Bill aims to prevent offences of assault, grievous hurt, criminal force, and criminal intimidation against advocates and damage or loss to their property.

Rajasthan becomes the first State in the country to enact a law granting protection to advocates from assault and grievous hurt.

The advocates through Out Rajasthan are on strike for the last few days demanding the Act. This brings to an end to a 33 day old strike of lawyers.

The Lawyers initiated the strike in the entire state of Rajasthan after a lawyer was brutally killed in Jodhpur. The demand for the Act then spread throughout Rajasthan. Thereafter a delegation of Lawyers met the Ministers of Rajasthan and an assurance was given on 09.03.2021 to pass the bill in this Assembly Session but the Lawyers did not call off the strike and resolved to continue the strike till the last day of the Assembly session in Rajasthan.
