Advocate Billwadal Bhattacharyya Removed as Deputy Solicitor General of India for Calcutta HC

Billwadal Bhattacharyya, formerly serving as Deputy Solicitor General of India for the Calcutta High Court, has been relieved of his duties from the position.

The notification dated February 16, 2024, states: The President has decided to terminate the tenure of Mr. Billwadal Bhattacharyya, Deputy Solicitor General of India for the Calcutta High Court (PB) in Kolkata, with immediate effect. The name of Mr. Billwadal Bhattacharyya, Advocate, as mentioned in this Department's Order No. J-11014/5/2020-Judicial dated January 13, 2022, is hereby omitted.

Bhattacharya assumed the role of Deputy Solicitor General (DSG) in 2022, with a term scheduled until 2025. His duties primarily involved representing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in legal proceedings before the principal bench of the Calcutta High Court. Notably, he was actively involved in representing the CBI in the ongoing litigation concerning the cash-for-jobs recruitment scam, which was under the jurisdiction of Justice Amrita Sinha's single bench.
