Ninety-seven lawyers have applied for designation as Senior Advocates at the Karnataka High Court, responding to an invitation issued by the High Court’s registry on April 4.
As per the Karnataka High Court (Designation of Senior Advocates) Rules, 2018, each application includes written recommendations from two current Senior Advocates.
The registry has now called for stakeholder feedback to aid in the scrutiny and evaluation of these applications, with all suggestions due by November 28.
Under the 2018 Rules, applicants can earn between 10 and 20 points for their years of practice and up to 40 points for the quality of legal arguments they have made in reported and unreported cases. Additionally, applicants may receive a maximum of 15 points for published works and up to 25 points for "personality and suitability," which are assessed in an interview.
In December 2021, the High Court designated 51 lawyers as Senior Advocates.
