A 45-year-old Delhi-based lawyer, Sameer Mehendiratta, tragically took his own life with a licensed pistol amid the stress of an ongoing divorce case with his wife, according to police reports.
A resident of Mukherjee Nagar, Mehendiratta, was reportedly living separately from his wife due to the ongoing legal proceedings.
Family members have expressed that the lawyer had been battling depression as a result of the divorce case. Despite efforts to save him, Mehendiratta succumbed to his injuries at a hospital on Tuesday evening. The authorities have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
This tragic event follows a similar case involving Puneet Khurana, a bakery owner from Delhi, who also died by suicide recently amid his own divorce proceedings. Khurana, who co-owned a bakery named "For God's Cakes" with his wife, was reportedly in conflict with her over both the divorce and the business. His family revealed that he had been emotionally distressed over the situation.
In another heartbreaking incident, Bengaluru-based software engineer Atul Subhash took his life last month, leaving behind a detailed 24-page suicide note. In the note, Subhash accused his wife and her relatives of harassment, and spoke of the emotional strain he had endured over the years due to marital issues.
