A 22-year-old man, accused of murder, threw a slipper at a judge during a hearing in a sessions court in Kalyan, Maharashtra, on Saturday. The slipper missed the judge, instead striking a wooden frame near his desk and landing beside the bench clerk, according to police reports.
The incident occurred in the afternoon, prompting the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused, identified as Kiran Santosh Bharam.
He was appearing before District and Additional Sessions Judge R.G. Waghmare for his murder case.
During the proceedings, Bharam requested the judge to transfer his case to another court. The judge instructed him to submit a formal application through his lawyer. However, when the lawyer’s name was called, it was noted that he was absent. The judge then asked the accused to provide an alternative lawyer and set a new date for the hearing.
Unexpectedly, the accused bent down, retrieved a slipper, and threw it toward the judge, shocking everyone present in the courtroom. Following the incident, an FIR was filed against Bharam under sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from duty) and 125 (endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
